The writer almost certainly does not mean that the people used only these words in the course of what must have been a major celebration. Nor does the Psalm merely exemplify the art of David’s musicians, or the temple liturgy. Rather the Chronicler makes the point that he is recording one of the major events with which his whole work is concerned. (Notice how great events in Israel’s history are typically marked by celebration with music, cf. Exod. 15; Neh. 12.) All the elements of the psalm are
